Qazaqstan Investment Corporation JSC Participated in the “Invest in China – Choose Shaanxi” Conference in Xi’an, China, on Advancing Sectoral and Investment Cooperation
Xi’an, China, September 16, 2026
A QIC delegation participated in the “Invest in China – Choose Shaanxi” conference dedicated to advancing industrial and investment cooperation. As part of the event, Gabbas Yerzhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of “Qazaqstan Investment Corporation” JSC (QIC), spoke at the panel session “The Special Matchmaking Session on Advanced Manufacturing Industry Chains.”

In his remarks, Gabbas Yerzhanov presented the key areas of activity of QIC, Baiterek Holding and its subsidiaries, highlighting the significant potential for further investment cooperation between Kazakhstan and China.
Today, Baiterek Holding is a key institution of Kazakhstan’s financial infrastructure, with approximately $44 billion in assets under management (AUM). The Holding facilitates capital mobilization, long-term financing, and support for business development and investment.

QIC is a fund of funds and a key institution supporting the development of Kazakhstan’s private equity market. QIC’s portfolio comprises 18 private equity and venture capital funds with combined AUM of $3.9 billion. Through QIC’s investment platform, around 150 projects have been implemented across various sectors of the economy.
The QIC representative highlighted the growing role of Chinese partners in investment cooperation with Kazakhstan and outlined key areas of collaboration, ranging from transport and logistics infrastructure and industrial cooperation to advanced technologies and energy.
QIC already cooperates with leading Chinese investment and financial institutions, including CITIC Group, Silk Road Fund, China Development Bank, ICBC, Sinosure and others. According to the Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of QIC, further expanding these partnerships will create opportunities to attract long-term capital, facilitate technology transfer and support the localization of production.
One of the key areas of cooperation is the development of transport and logistics connectivity under the Belt and Road Initiative and the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, also known as the Middle Corridor.
Energy cooperation is another important area. Among the ongoing initiatives is a project to construct a 160 MW combined-cycle gas turbine power plant in Aktau, with total investment exceeding $200 million and the participation of China Huadian Overseas Investment and QIC. The project is aimed at strengthening the resilience of the power system and providing the necessary balancing capacity.
In conclusion, Gabbas Yerzhanov highlighted the special role of Shaanxi Province in shaping modern Eurasian value chains and emphasized Kazakhstan’s importance as a strategic platform connecting China, Europe and the broader Eurasian region.
The parties noted the need to further develop joint initiatives that bring together the capital, technologies and expertise of the two countries. Future cooperation is expected to focus on projects ranging from the development of new production capacities and infrastructure to the integration of Kazakh and Chinese companies into regional and global value chains.
